Not everyone is a good fit for your freelance business

This might be hard to hear but it’s okay to turn away potential clients in your freelance business. I did this recently and it always comes with the feeling of, “Omg, did I make the right decision?”

But by turning away potential clients, you open yourself up to those that are a better match.

Why?

  • You are less likely to work with someone that has you throwing in the towel after a few months.

  • You will not have mental health issues.

  • Your business will light you up, instead of dreading it.

  • You will get better and better at what you do, therefore charging more and more.

  • You’ll be known for one thing, be a specialist, which comes with higher demand.

Most importantly, the clients that are a good match will refer you and your freelance services. They will sing your praises to others. Your freelance business will start getting referrals and then you have to work a little less in marketing mode.

When you get clients perfectly matched to your expertise, personality and offers, you will build your dream business and life.

Saying no can feel uncomfortable in the moment, but it’s often the smartest move you can make. Every time you turn away a client, you create room for the ones who truly get you, value your work, and help your business succeed.

Your dream business isn’t built by saying “yes” to everyone. It’s built by choosing the right clients, the right projects, and the right path for you.

Trust yourself. You’re making space for something better.
