Your Freelance Business Might Fail if You Lack This One Quality

I have been cooking homemade meals from scratch for 15 years. I can promise you that the first three years, the meals were horrible and barely edible. But with persistence, I’m proud to say that I am now a great cook. But gosh, it was so damn hard in the beginning with a lot of bumps and downright failures (pretty sure I had to throw a few meals in the trash and opt for pasta).

We were going through marketing strategies in my Flourishing Freelancer coaching call recently because marketing is, also, so damn hard.

My early foray into cooking where I would make horrible meals reminded me of the persistence (and practice) that is needed in order to market your business consistently and get the right clients to your door.

It's not fun, it's a grind, and it can drain your soul. Because of this, it's also why I think so many businesses fail.

Here's what I suggested to the member:

✅Spend 2 months putting your business out there.

✅Set up a marketing schedule and stick to it.

✅This means thinking outside the box.

✅See where you start getting bites.

From there, narrow down what's working and refine it (if you’re using social media, take a glance at your analytics). Get better at it. Practice more.

Local networking events getting you leads? Go to more.

Guest podcasting has some bites coming through? Aim for ones with larger audiences.

People signing up for your newsletter? Make sure to continue writing AND try selling to it.

As you continue, you're getting more comfortable, it doesn't take so long, and you attract the right clients more easily. But without the persistence to keep trying, and to continue tweaking to see how to get it to a point where you are getting interest, you will give up on marketing your business.

THIS is why some businesses fail. People forget that you have to crawl before you can walk. They know that income and sales is the most important part of having a business. But it’s more important to market your business in order to build it for longevity. And persistence in your marketing is necessary to succeed.

Remember, you have meals that go down the disposal before your cooking tastes good.
