The Secret Reason You’re Not Growing Your Freelance Business Yet
You know when you read a cliché, but it hits you differently? It's like you read something for the very first time?
"Who decides what's out of reach, if not we ourselves?"
That line came from a fiction book I picked up a few months ago, and I haven’t been able to shake it since.
It hit hard because it made me realize that when something really matters, you make time. You shift things around and you prioritize.
And when you don’t?
It’s not just busyness...it’s avoidance that is usually fear in disguise.
When you want something, you make time for it. You put aside the to-do list and focus.
So if you are avoiding something you know you should be prioritizing, what are you sincerely afraid of?
Success? Yes, that’s it for many people, believe it or not.
Change? Yes, your life will change and your schedule will change.
So now I’m asking myself: when did I decide that my own goals were out of reach?
I have been working 9 months on a funnel for meta ads, that honestly should have taken me a max of 3 months. I kept putting it off, sometimes for legit reasons (ill health of kids and myself, changes in the business) but most of the time it was fear holding me back.
The thought of success comes with…
“I will have to upgrade my newsletter system, I’ll probably get more subscribers, I will have customer dissatisfaction at times, more people will join my group coaching and I’ll have to add another call.”
These aren’t BAD things (well, maybe the dissatisfaction but it’s also unavoidable in business); in fact, they are all good.
But the thought of EVERYTHING ELSE that comes with success makes me fear and it's been a hard wakeup call for me to realize the reason I'm further behind is not because of:
-time
-tasks
-children
-life
...but really because I am moving my priorities. Putting everything else ahead of what I actually want.
And that's on me.
My advice for you is: take a look at what is holding you back. Have you ever caught yourself doing this too? Talking yourself out of your own goals?
And when you sincerely know what is holding you back, you’ll be able to shift your mindset to go faster and see the success you want.
PS. By the way, if you're wondering what book it's from, it is We Hunt the Flame by Hafsah Faizal. The book was so-so, but there were so many great nuggets/quotes in it that had me stop and think.
